Happy Valley - 31/01/24

First blog for a Happy Valley meeting quite like the longer race card meetings here, does cause us Australians to be tired the next day but. Lets get into it.

R1 - Fenwick Handicap - 2200M - C5

10 - Green Laser - Keith Yeung

Going to stick with the last start winner in Green Laser who came out from barrier 9 and had a lot of work to do, sitting 7L behind at the 400M puts on a masterful run to claim victory he does go up slightly in weight and is against his rivals from that win but from a better barrier he may be able to control the race and sit off speed a bit closer this time.

R2 - Fleming Handicap - 1200M - C5

5 - Wind Speeder - Matthew Chadwick

A valiant 2nd place finish behind Valhalla last start, had to make his own way and huge effort for it to happen swinging 6 wide on the bend and storming home was showing good speed to catch the leader just ran out of turf, if we see a better settling run this time I'm happy to be with him.

R3 - Jaffe Handicap - 1200M - C4

3 - Gallant Valour - Zac Purton - Next Best

Only looking better and better for his next win, up against Lyrical Motion here who got the better of him last start but has the barrier and jockey to make a revenge run and get his 2nd win of his career. I just think a lot will have to go wrong for GV to not win here. Looks a great chance.

10 - Circuit Seven - Matthew Poon - Each Way

9 - Super Fast Dragon - Lyle Hewitson

First E/W play of the meeting comes in the likes of this 6yo who will be running the second time under new trainer Cody Mo. Have been keeping my eye on this boy since the stable switch a lot and I mean a lot is dependent on his jump as he hasn't quite got that in order this season. Will also have a saver bet on Super Fast Dragon.

11 - Kyrus Unicorn - Andrea Atzeni - Each Way

8 - Turin Warrior - Zac Purton

With only one win to his name on track and distance the David Hall grey gelding really is hard to catch, I quite like the horses speed on the straight when in clear air and getting Atzeni on for the first time has swayed me to include him today. Will need it all to go right for him and the back marker horse just needs to sit off pace slightly in this race to hopefully get there. Turin Warrior I have backed all prep and hasn't finished outside the Top 3, ill be kicking myself if he comes in today so gets a saver bet.

5 - King Eccellente - Karis Teetan

Karis seems to be the only jockey that can win on the Douglas Whyte 5yo, running consecutive 2nds last two starts, once again he will need to work hard to get into a good position to make that 300M sprint he is well known for, gets a chance here tonight and I'm happy to be on him.

R7 - Lockhart Handicap - 1200M - C3

9 - Act of Faith - Brenton Avdulla - Each Way

AOF chance at claiming C3 victory for the first time has to be considered here in this race. I would love to see a nice clean jump from him and sit 2/3L off the leader, I think its the best position for him and will give him a chance to challenge for C3 glory!

8 - Hoss - Andrea Atzeni - Each Way

Granted the $1.50 fav is deserving, I think ill take my chances elsewhere in purely a value pick currently $27/$5 Hoss is worth a bet he already has C3 victory and is new coming to the Pierre Ng stable but has every chance to cause an upset here. Will take a lot to out class Beauty Waves but it can be done.

8 - Simply Maverick - Andrea Atzeni - Best Bet

Last of the C3 brings about my Best Bet for the night, some good horses here and also some in C3 company the first time this term. Should make for an interesting race. Simply Maverick was just too good out last start to ignore and presents better than a C3 horse already. Best bet for me at a decent price of $2.90.
