Sha Tin - 24/01/24

Eight AWT tracks up tonight which always makes it a tricky card, hopefully can catch some good value winners!

R1 - Spoonbill Handicap - 1800M - Class 4

8 - Righteous Doctrine - Lyle Hewitson

No stranger to the AWT the old boy and purely off last start had good pace to move through the field to get into a chance at the minors finishing 4th, I think he will run better today and gets a better barrier for it, I have my concerns on if he doesn't jump well he may run in the same placing again still happy to back him for this one.

Danger - Pakistan Friend

Selections - 8 -7 - 3 - 9

R2 - Egret Handicap - 1650M - Class 2

2 - All For St Paul's - Angus Chung - Next Best

Angus Chung gets on All for St Paul's with a good weight claim this horse has won on the AWT more then once, but hasn't been able to get back to winning form, I see this race maybe his chance to replicate some of the form we have seen on this track and distance in a long time. I do not see many other horses matching the speed the 7yo has and can put on display.

Danger - Alacrity

Selections - 2 - 6 - 1 - 8

R3 - Peacock Handicap - 1650M - Class 4

9 - Legion of Merit - Lyle Hewitson

This gelding trained by the Chris So stable was impressive last time out on the AWT running in 4th place put in a lot of work on the bend 6 wide and showed good speed, the barrier works in his favor this time around and I believe he will sit a lot better then 3rd last like last start for a competitive finish.

Danger - Lucky Banner

Selections - 9 - 3 - 7 - 12

R4 - Swan Handicap - 1650M - Class 5

3 - Asian One - Andrea Atzeni

Extremely competitive race here in the C5 a lot of horses I like here but I've landed with the Jamie Richards stables Asian One, progressing ok for the prep so far and hasn't had much luck in getting into a good position to challenge for a win, gets a chance here on the AWT where he has won before and I just think if it all goes his way he may just surprise us all with a big win.

Danger - Starship Eighty

Selections - 3 - 2 - 4 - 13

R5 - Kestrel Handicap - 1200M - Class 4

4 - Colourful Prince - Lyle Hewitson

Another race where three strong horses are running and I found it hard to really make a choice Ideally I'd have all 3 in my selections but Colourful Prince gets the nod for a bet. A lot will need to go his way but drawing barrier 2 he may just get a slit edge on the likes of Regent Glory and Flying Dragon, want him to lead off pace and has potential to win from there.

Danger - Regent Glory

Selections -4 - 8 - 1 - 12

R6 - Kestrel Handicap - 1200M - Class 4

4 - Judy's Great - Zac Purton

Already proven his merits first up on the AWT and despite the harder barriers on both outings still a great horse on it. Gets Zac Purton this time around and has every chance to come out with a win and at $5.50 I'm willing to take a chance.

Danger - Diamond Flare

Selections - 4 - 6 - 3 - 2

R7 - Flamingo Handicap - 1200M - Class 3

6.Smokey Bear - Keegan De Melo

The little surprise package that is Smokey Bear who has a good turn of foot on the AWT, already has C3 victory on his resume two starts back beating the likes of Adefill and Packing Bole with a great run down the straight, looking forward to seeing something similar tonight.

Danger - All is Good

Selections - 6 - 5 - 2 - 10

R8 - Heron Handicap - 1650M - Class 3

10.Frantanck - Karis Teetan - Best Bet

The stable in form gelding first run on AWT was very good only losing a head to a persistent Adefill who was too good. Up against Adefill again and a part field he was already bested on the AWT, can only see this horse improving here and no doubt Pierre Ng has him ready to break his maidan tonight. Comes in as my Best Bet for the very last of the night.

Danger - Adefill

Selections - 10 - 4 - 1 - 7
